I’m Richard Staffell,
a modern impressionist oil painter
from Richmond-upon-Thames

After spending over twenty years crafting a career with my hands as a hairdresser, I discovered a profound new creative path in painting around 2012.

I spent two years honing my drawing skills at the Barnes Atelier, a classical art programme that shaped my professional approach to the craft.

Embracing the canvas has been a deeply personal journey for me – one that lets me connect emotionally with the riverside and parks I grew up around.

Every scene I paint carries a piece of my story; I’m endlessly inspired by Richmond’s changing light and seasonal atmospheres and I want to share that love of place and leave a permanent record of what it means to me.

Painting these landscapes isn’t just an artistic exercise, it’s my way of honouring my home and inviting viewers into the moments that move me.

Today I’m proud to be an exhibiting member of the Richmond Art Society, showcasing my landscapes in juried shows and galleries as I continue to expand my artistic reach.
